WINTERBERRY
FARM
2009 SPRING & SUMMER
PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS
Mid April – September
FLAX TO LINEN
We’ll likely meet 8-10 times during the growing and harvesting
season. We’ll start with planting seeds and continue right
through all the steps of processing the fiber. Working with an
already harvested crop first, participants will learn to spin and weave
with this ancient fiber. By the end of the program participants
will have a journal documenting their efforts and a linen napkin of
their own making. Maximum 4 participants, including all
materials. $300.
April 18
WET FELT & NEEDLE FELT
Felt is a wonderful material made without any
spinning/knitting/weaving/crocheting- fiber turns into finished
piece. This beginner felting day will spend the morning on wet
felting and the afternoon on dry (needle felting). You’ll
get to make a flat piece and a ball or dish; then you can make an
animal or vegetable and embellish your morning creations.
We’ll have a good farm lunch in between. You’re
welcome to come to either session (including lunch!) or to both.
Limited to 6 participants, the morning session begins at 9:00; the
afternoon at 1:00 with lunch at noon. Morning or afternoon
session alone is $55; full day is $100. Materials are included.

BEGINNER SHEEP
Thinking about raising some sheep? This day will get you
going! Covered will be feeding, housing, fencing and health
care. We’ll talk about choosing a breed, caring for wool,
and will practice handling, teeth checks, foot trimming and the
like. Lots of hands-on! You’ll see different kinds of
shelters and fences, different breeds and ages of sheep.
We’ll review the full year’s cycle of care and you’ll
have a chance to look at lots of books and lots of equipment.
From 9:00 until 4:30 with hearty farm lunch included. $80 for
first person in family; $60 for second.
July 18
LEARN TO SPIN
For anyone 14 or older, you’ll spend the day learning to make
yarn. We’ll go over the process—and then make yarn
with several different spinning tools. You’ll choose and
prepare wool for spinning and you’ll handle a variety of
fleeces. You’ll be introduced to other animal fibers, and
also some that come from plants. A great farm lunch is included,
as well as a chance to meet the fiber-bearing animals here on the
farm. Workshop runs 9:00-4:00. $100, including lunch and
materials. Limited to 4 participants.
Most of our adult workshops are
held in the fall and winter. Upcoming programs will include
Making Soap; Experimenting with Weaving; Learning to Weave; Dyeing Wool
and Felting Your own Hat.
The farm also sells small numbers
of livestock, as well as and poultry & meat, all ready for cooking.
Winterberry Farm is a small family teaching
farm. We raise a lot of our own food and we offer very small programs
for families, for kids and for adults; we provide a place where people
of different faiths—and people seeking faith—can reflect
upon and share their call to care for the earth.
