  Lavender Festival 24 June 2018

Lavender in all forms- including a large & beautiful labyrinth to walk. Vendor booths- fiber, herbal and other, and lavender plants for sale. Craft demonstrations and food....a very special event on a lovely farm. We'll be there with lots of fiber in all forms and some of our fiber animals- rabbits, sheep and goats. From time to time we'll demonstrate spinning, needle felting and maybe even weaving on very small looms. Even the weather forecast looks great- so come enjoy one of western Massachusetts special gems.

  Dyeing for all (spinners, felters, knitters, weavers) 12 August 2017

We'll work primarily with washfast acid dyes for protein fibers, and will dye fiber and yarn (and maybe some cloth?) in basic and in wilder (ie, multicolored) ways. We'll cover safety, record keeping and different dyeing procedures- and you'll try many. Some fiber samples will be provided- and you can bring others to experiment with...all very hands on! Limited to four participants who'll bring a lunch. We'll supply drinks and snacks.

  Learn to Spin 26 August 2017

For anyone 12 or older, you'll spend the day learning to make yarn. We'll talk process - and then make yarn with several different spinning tools. You'll evaluate, wash and card wool, and leave with wool samples from many breeds. We'll also handle plant fibers and a few from other animals. A great farm lunch is included, as well as a chance to meet the fiber-bearing animals here on the farm. Workshop runs from 9 AM to 5 PM. $120, including lunch and materials. Limited to 4 participants.

Learn to make soap from both animal and vegetable fats in an afternoon. For anyone thirteen or older (we work with lye), well make several batches of wonderful and long-lasting soaps. (All of this started 20 years ago because we wanted to make something useful from the pig fat). Youll take home samples, and also recipes so you can start right away to make more. The workshop runs from 1:00 until 5:00. Limited to 4, $65.

  Angora Rabbits 23 September 2017

Angoras are remarkably sweet tempered beasts- and their fur makes wonderful yarn. This workshop will teach you how to care for the bunnies and we'll talk about different strategies for handling their fiber. We'll talk about handling, housing, feeding and health. You'll handle young rabbits and adult, and have a chance to groom them. And everyone will spin a little yarn. Workshop ends when all your questions have been answered.

We'll shear about 35 sheep- and a few of the angora goats. Lots of fiber and yarn for sale- naturals & glorious colors. There'll be music and food and demonstrations of skirting, spinning, and weaving. Lots of animals- including angora rabbits- to visit. We'll end the day (about 4:00 with a herding demo. No charge, but donations for farm scholarships are always welcome. The actual sheep shearing will happen about 11:00 - 2:00, and the goats before and after.

  The After Shearing Afternoon 8 October 2017

The relaxed time, just for fiber people. Without other visitors there's time and space to really look at the new fleeces and the large array of wonderful fibers all set about the house. Choose a fleece or two to be skirted or select something beautiful that's all ready to spin, knit or weave.

  Half-Day Weaving Sampler 14 October 2017

Think you might want to learn to weave? Heres a chance to find out! Well have several looms all warped and ready to go&you just come and play! And ask lots of questions to see if maybe weaving is something youd enjoy. We start at 1:00, break for tea and and weaving talk, and go until 5:00. Youll leave with a sample project, information&and some clarity about your future as a weaver! Same program each day. $60 for session, everything included. Limited to 3 participants per session..

  Fiber Festival of New England 5 November 2017

A relatively new and very large fiber festival. All inside - no tramping through mud or rain! We're in the large animal arena with bunnies - and a big variety of fiber. Raw wool right through dyed and carded.

  Crafts of Colrain 12 November 2017

Colrain is a beautiful small town with many, many artists and craftspeople (and farmers!).We are one of the 17 studios participating. Check out the website and/or the Facebook page- you'll be delighted! Our part is fiber- yarns, spinning and felting fibers and a few surprises. And of course sheep, goats, angora rabbits, and poultry will be enjoying visits, too.
